Pauline Elizabeth Fites

Pauline Elizabeth Fites, 87, passed away at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at her home in Winamac. Pauline was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Pulaski, to the late Peter and Matilda (Moise) Becker. She married Jack Fites on Jan. 3, 1953, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Winamac. Jack survives.

Pauline was active in several community organizations including  St. Peter Parish, Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, Ladies of Charity, Home Economics Club, Krazy Quilt Club and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an adult leader of the Lucky Four Leaf 4-H Club for 43 years. Pauline worked for Singer Controls Division, (later Eaton Co.), for more than two decades. She helped organize the union at the factory and was the financial secretary for UAW Local 1609 for 17 years.

Pauline was a beloved and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening and sewing. She especially enjoyed making quilts. Pauline also raised chickens and geese. She loved all animals except snakes.

Pauline is survived by her husband Jack Fites; daughter Diane [Bill] Moyer; son Jeff [Robin] Fites; grandchildren: Andrea [Troy] Tennyson, Scott [Megan] Fites, Erica [Chris] Saggau, Kateri [Ben] Gilliand, and Mary Beth [Nathan] Deinlein; and great-grandchildren: Emma Tennyson, Aubrey Tennyson, Addilyn Tennyson, Peter Fites and Paul Fites. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Peter and Matilda (Moise) Becker; sisters: Helen Johnson, Alberta Wank, Mary Lou Dornsife and Joan Beehler; and brothers: Gene Becker, Clem Becker, Carl Becker, Tom Becker, Richard Becker, Jack Becker, and infant Ralphie Becker. 

Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Frain Mortuary in Winamac. A scriptural wake service was held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The wake service was followed by services by the Christian Mothers and the Ladies of Charity. Those services were followed by a rosary service. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct.14, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Winamac. Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiated. Burial took place in the St. Peter Cemetery in Winamac.
