Millard R. “Red” Smith

Millard R. “Red” Smith, 59, of Royal Center, passed away at 1:32 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Woodbridge Health Campus in Logansport. 

He was born on Nov. 6, 1956, in Suffolk, Virginia, to the late Billy and Lillie (Parker) Smith. On July 4, 1980, he married the love of his life, Grace E. Jophlin, in Plymouth. She survives.

Red served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member and former chaplain at the Winamac Eagle’s Lodge. 

Red enjoyed fishing, playing euchre and small engine repair. 

Red was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife Grace E. Smith of Royal Center; daughters: Christina “Beth” [Joseph] Smith of Lucerne, and Amanda “Mandi” [Floyd] Williams of Sidney; son Jason [Terah] Smith of Leiters Ford; grandchildren: Drake Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Dakota Clark, Dylan Williams, Dallas Williams, and Micah Smith; sisters: Doris [Mike] Moss, Beulah [Don Rausch] Braun, and Wiona Dyke; brother William [Joeanna] Smith; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Lillie (Parker) Smith; brothers Lewis Smith and Angelo Smith; and niece Lois Vollmer. 

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Word of Faith Church in Winamac. Rev. Bobby Board officiated. The American Legion and VFW conducted military rites following services. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary in Winamac.
