Mattie Imogene Back
Mattie Imogene Back, 85, of Winamac, died at 10:04 a.m., Saturday, April 25, at her daughter’s residence in Star City after a short illness.
She was born June 9, 1934, in Breathitt, Kentucky, to William H. and Sarah (Stacy) Fugate.
Mrs. Back moved to Bremen in 1973 from Cincinnati, Ohio, and then to Monticello in 1991. She had lived in Winamac for the last 10 years. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising four daughters. She was a doll collector and enjoyed reading, embroidery and word search puzzles.
Mrs. Back is survived by her daughters: Francine Morgan of Winamac, Dana [Steve] Prall of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Lisa [Tim] Wiegand of Star City; grandchildren: Amy Kanarr, Jeannie Amador, Amber Forest, Rebecca Bargo, Ryan Prall, Kat Hardin, Joey Hardin, Chasity Melton, Willard Turner, Matthew Wiegand and Troy Wiegand; many great and great-great-grandchildren; brother Philip Fugate of Dayton, Ohio; and sisters: Elizabeth Campbell of Portsmouth, Ohio, LouAnn Hardin of Kentucky, and Ethel Fugate of Mishawaka.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rex Back; daughter Rebecca Back; granddaughters: Anna and Abby Wiegand; grandson James “Jimmie” Prall; and great-grandson Zach Prall.
Due to COVID-19, private family graveside services will be held at South Union Cemetery, Nappanee.
