Mary Ann Gutwein

Mary Ann Gutwein, 86, of Francesville, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at St. Elizabeth East in Lafayette. 

She was born on Dec. 28, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Jacob and Ida (Schmid) Altvater. At a young age, she moved to Milford, Indiana, and was raised by Oliver and Emma Haab. She graduated from Milford High School in 1947. On June 26, 1960, Mary Ann married Glen Gutwein in Milford. He survives.

Mary Ann was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church and was faithful to help with church activities. She enjoyed being a homemaker, especially cooking and spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her husband Glen Gutwein of Francesville; daughters: Beth [Edward] Russell of Lafayette, and Glenda [Brian] Allinder of West Lafayette; granddaughter Leslie [Jeremiah] Zahn; grandsons: Brian [Megan] Timmons, Cameron Allinder and Colin Allinder; sister Patti Thorp; brother Alvin [Carol] Haab; stepbrothers: Bill Stacy, Lyn Stacy and Charles Stacy; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Ida (Schmid) Altvater; foster parents Oliver and Emma Haab; stepmother Louise (Stacy) Alvater; and sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Leonard Shotola. 

Visitation was 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville, and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. The ministers of the church officiated. Burial took place at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
