Marsha Jean Lawson

July 13, 1950 — Oct. 10, 2020

Marsha Jean Lawson, 70, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away at 11:40 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, in hospice care at her home after a brief hospitalization, surrounded by her daughter, son, sister, and brother on the phone as she passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior. The cause of death was lung cancer.

She was born on Thursday, July 13, 1950, in Lafayette, to the late Kenneth Dale and Olive Lucille (Gross) Lawson.

Marsha was a 1968 graduate of Star City High School of Star City and went on to attend Purdue University of West Lafayette, and Ball State University of Muncie.

She spent most of her formative years on a Pulaski County farm. 

Marsha also lived in Kalamazoo Michigan, for 28 years before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, in 2002.

She had worked in real estate for most of her career, as an agent, office support, and in corporate relocations.

Marsha was employed by Jaqua Realtors in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Prudential Relocation, initially in Kalamazoo, Michigan, before her transfer to Phoenix, Arizona.

She reveled in simply spending time with friends and family.

Marsha had such a warm heart, laugh, was a good listener and adept conversationalist that always lifted the spirits of those in her presence. 

Survivors include her daughter Jennifer [John] Tohtz of Chesterton; son Andrew Compton of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren: Kayla, Karli and Liam; sister Janice [John] Dilts of Winamac; and many nieces, grandnieces, and grandnephews whom she loved dearly.

Marsha was proceeded in death by her parents Kenneth Dale and Olive Lucille (Gross) Lawson; and longtime companion Jim Shirah.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 1-2:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Miller–Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello. A memorial celebration of life service will follow at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m., with family and friends speaking. Burial will follow at the Hughes Cemetery in rural Monticello.

Memorials may be given to the wishes of the donor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home, 6368 E. US 24, Monticello, Indiana, 47960.
