Marjorie A. Scheffer

Marjorie A. Scheffer, 84, of Monterey, passed away at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at her home.

She was born on February 11, 1931, in rural Star City, to the late John and Ranna (Roberts) Murphy.

On May 8, 1948, she married Arden Scheffer in Star City. He passed away June 16, 1999.

Marjorie was retired from GenCorp in Logansport, after 30 years. She was a member of the local Steel Workers Union.

Marjorie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in North Webster.

Marjorie enjoyed the outdoors, especially flowers, gardening, mushroom hunting and camping. She loved her dog, Chloe, very much.

Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her daughter Judy Smith of Monterey; sons: Keith [Deb] Scheffer of Star City, and Greg [Becky] Scheffer of Leesburg; son-in-law Sam Rogers of Winamac; granddaughters: Ranna [Martin] Quimby, Allison Scheffer and Jamie [Dan] Wenzler; grandson Jesse [Rhonda] Bitterling; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters: Alice Fox of Kewanna, and Patsy [Cyril] Hahn of Winamac; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Ranna (Roberts) Murphy; husband Bernard Arden Scheffer; daughter Terry Rogers; and sisters: Virginia Hardy, Dorothy Herr and Jean Sharp.

Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Frain Mortuary with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Private entombment will take place at a later date in Star City West Cemetery, Star City.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society in memory of Marjorie’s daughter Terry Rogers.
