Marjorie Bertha “Chiz” Hanus

Marjorie Bertha “Chiz” Hanus, 87, of Winamac, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac. 

Marjorie was born on Aug. 19, 1930, in Pulaski, to the late John William and Cora (Link) Reutebuch. On June 19, 1954, she married the love of her life, the late Chester J. Hanus, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski. Chester died on Dec. 19, 2001. 

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski and the Christian Mother Society. Chiz loved playing cards. She was an avid Cubs and Indiana University fan. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters: Ruth [James] Benson of Culver, Paula [Steve] Miller of Star City, and Mary [David] Hoover of Star City; son James [Julie] Hanus of Winamac; grandsons: Brian [Kaitlynn] Miller, Eric [Samantha] Miller, Jared [Kaycee] Benson and Kyle Krohn; granddaughters: Holly [Travis] Nuest and Emma Hoover; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Betty DeSabatine of Winamac, Dorothy Linback of Lafayette, Marlene [Ron] Roth of Star City, Martha Kayan [Tom] Derheimer of Columbia City, Sharon [Jerry] Cloud of Indianapolis, and Marcia [Rich] Lehman of Winamac; and brother Jerald [Gina] Reutebuch of Sierra Vista, Arizona. 

She was preceded in death by her parents John William and Cora (Link) Reutebuch; husband Chester J. Hanus; and brothers: Junior Reutebuch, William R. Reutebuch, Richard Reutebuch, Ronald Reutebuch and John Reutebuch. 

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. A scriptural wake service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pulaski, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph West Cemetery in Pulaski.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
