Marilyn Sue Thobe

Feb. 1, 1963 — March 6, 2015

Marilyn Sue Thobe, 52, of Celina, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 6.

She was born on Feb. 1, 1963, in LaPorte, to Robert and Mary Sue Alt. She was the beloved wife of Chris Thobe for 23 years.

Marilyn graduated from Winamac Community High School in 1981. In 1982, she was the Pulaski County 4-H Fair Achievement Queen. She received a bachelor’s degree in textile science from Purdue University in 1985. She worked for Metropolitan Environmental Services in the sales and estimating department. Then, she became a wonderful mother of four and volunteered actively with the Celina City School District, Mercer County 4-H program, and throughout the community. Later, she was a librarian at the Celina Branch of the Mercer County District Library where she found a passion as the program director for the Langston Rock and Mineral Collection and was fondly known as the “Rock Lady.”

Marilyn will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her daughters: Megan Thobe and Holly Thobe; sons: Hank Thobe and Max Thobe; mother Mary Sue Link; sister Rebecca Goble; brothers: Robert D. Alt and Donald [Leslie] Link; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: father Robert C. Alt; father Donald R. Link; brother-in-law Greg Goble; paternal grandparents Vernon and Julian Alt; and maternal grandparents DeVere and Gladys Thompson.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, March 13, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 119 E. Fulton Street in Celina, Ohio, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. A celebration of life service will be held in Winamac, later this spring.

Memorial donations can be given to The Mercer County District Library (303 N. Main St. Celina, Ohio) or St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (119 E. Fulton Street, Celina, Ohio).
