Marcelino “Mark” Salinas

Marcelino “Mark” Salinas, 87, of Winamac, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, at his home. Mark was born on Dec. 25, 1931, in Corwith, Iowa, to the late Lino and Eva (Miller) Salinas. He graduated from North Judson High school. He moved to Winamac in 1980. Mark married Brenda Westfall on Oct. 1, 1994, in Winamac. She survives. 

Mark was a local businessman and entrepreneur. His first business venture was Mark’s Service, a service station located on U.S. 35 at the Pulaski/Starke County line. Mark built and operated The Alley until 1994 when the facility was renovated to accommodate All Seasons Home Center, retiring in 1999. Over the years, Mark also enjoyed farming with his father. 

Mark enjoyed working with his hands, especially building and fixing things. He was always figuring out a better way to do things. 

Mark enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed. 

He is survived by his wife Brenda A. Salinas of Winamac; son Mark A. Salinas of Winamac; daughter Barbara A. Tominac of Culver; stepsons: Michael [Jennifer] Westfall of Washington, Michigan, and Jacob [Patti] Westfall of Port Hueneme, California; stepdaughter Sara Kilavos of Culver; grandchildren: Chloe, Jonathan, Bryce, Jackson and Porter; sister Virginia [Fred] Worley of Porter; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Lino and Eva (Miller) Salinas; sisters: Dorothy, Florence and Patsy; brothers: Roy, Darrell, Vidal, Russell, Percy, John, Leon and Fermine; and former spouse Marian R. Salinas. 

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – noon Thursday, Feb. 21, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will follow at noon Thursday, February 21. Private burial will take place at Culver Cemetery in Culver.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pulaski Animal Center to honor Mark’s love of adopting and caring for animals.
