Lola May Pletka

Lola May Pletka, 79, of Winamac, went to be with the Lord at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Hickory Creek in Winamac.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1935, at Mercy Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to the late Guy and Edith (Turney) Spearman.

Lola attended school in Fredericktown, Ohio, for 12 years. She had been employed at Tappan Stove Factory in Ohio for 20 years as an inspector. Lola relocated to Indiana in 1973.

On March 23, 1974, Lola married James Paul Pletka in Winamac. He passed away on Dec. 25, 1993. Lola had also been employed at Eaton Controls in Winamac for 23 years, retiring on February 1, 1998.

Lola enjoyed spending time with her friends. Children had a special place in her heart. She loved her little dog Half-Pint and you would see Lola taking her for a leisure walk or a ride in the car. Lola collected angels, cardinals, enjoyed bingo, dominoes and spending time on her computer. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Lola was a member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene.

She was an active member of Pulaski County Human Services where she enjoyed spending time at the Von Tobel Senior Center and was named 2005 Volunteer of the Year. She was also a former member of the Eagles.

Survivors include her sister Leona Collins of Fredericktown, Ohio; sisters-in-law: John [Bonnie] Pletka of West Monroe, Lousiana, Irene Mitchell of Winamac, Virginia Mills of Dayton, Ohio, and Mary Kaminski of San Pierre; brother-in-law Dennis [DeAnna] Pletka of Winamac; niece Cindy [Albert] Gudas of Kewanna; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Guy C. and Edith Mae (Turney) Spearman; husband James Paul Pletka; and sisters: Lucille Wilson and Lois Howard.

Visitation was 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 9, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, at Frain Mortuary. Don Norrick officiated. Burial will take place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.
