Lois K. Russell
Lois K (Bergdolt) Russell passed away on July 21, the anniversary of her father’s death 46 years earlier.
She was proud to have grown up on a Pulaski County farm during the Depression, nevertheless achieving degrees from Ball State University and Butler University and vastly improving her station in life over almost ten decades. She was a first-grade teacher most of her life and at one point was named “Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year” by the National Education Association.
A proud Democrat and lifelong liberal, she prided herself on being interested in current affairs and being a broadly educated person. A fierce competitor in all aspects of life, from the bridge table to her long-term investment portfolio, she quickly earned others’ respect.
She leaves behind a 94-year-old sister, Ruth (Bergdolt) Webster; two sons: Dr. Edwin [Mary] Russell and Thomas [Marsha] Russell; a daughter Sue (Russell) Buckalew; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Zippers Funeral Home of Ruskin, Florida, is in charge of arrangements.
