Lila Jane “Jennie” Mays

Lila Jane Mays, 77, of Winamac, passed away at 12:56 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at We Belong Senior Home in Plymouth. 

She was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Kewanna, to Ralph and Helen (Summers) Kough. 

Jennie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was ecstatic when her great-grandchildren were born.

Jennie was a former bartender at the VFW in Winamac. She also worked as a sales clerk at the Bottle Shop in Winamac. She retired in 2000.

Jennie spent much of her time reading and working crossword puzzles. She spent most of her time caring for her cats.

Jennie will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter Jennifer L. [Bruce] Adamski of Winamac; son Jerry Thomas “J.T.” [Laura] Mays II of Winamac; grandsons Scott Benzing, Shaun R. (Molly) Cotner, Ryan E. Cotner and Kyle W. Cotner; granddaughters: Sydney Richards, Theresa Patty and Jerri L. [Chris] Klein; great-granddaughter Megan Patty; great-grandsons: Kaden Klein and Jerad Klein; sister Becky [John] Bruce of Winamac; and great-nieces: Megan Ingram and Michaela Ingram. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Helen Margaret (Summers) Kough; grandson Jerad A. Mays; niece Lisa Ingram; sister and brother-in-law Debra M. and Don Stigen; and aunt Bonnie Summers Johnson. 

Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, and one hour prior to services Monday. Memorial services were at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at Frain Mortuary. Rev. Anthony Wagner officiated. Burial of cremains will take place in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lake Bruce, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given in lieu of flowers. Please give to the charity of your choice.
