Leamon E. “Lum” Ackerman

Dec. 2, 1936 ­— Jan. 12, 2015

Leamon E. “Lum” Ackerman, 78, of Grass Creek, went home with his Lord and savior at 4:45 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.

Born on Dec. 2, 1936, in Fox, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Arthur and Esther (Smith) Ackerman.

On May 13, 1967, he married Kathryn “Kathy” Brown.

Lum retired in 1998 from the Fulton County Highway Department and was formerly employed at Byers Landfill in Logansport. He also had farmed in his earlier years.

He was a proud member of the NRA. Lum was also an avid fisherman who loved animals, driving his trucks and spending time with his friends at the local restaurants.

Survivors include his wife Kathryn “Kathy” Ackerman of Grass Creek; children: Audry [Fred] Gard of Kokomo, Karen Sue [Jim] LeVeque of Lake Odessa, Michigan, Andrew [Deb] Curtis of Fulton, Randall Curtis of Logansport, Michael [Linda] Curtis of Logansport, and Robert Zimmerman of Amory, Mississippi; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by daughter Debra McClure; brothers: Troy Ackerman and Charles Speirs; and daughter-in-law Anita Zimmerman.

Visitation was 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna chapel. Services were at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 16, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna chapel. Pastor Bruce Russell officiated. Burial was at Grass Creek Cemetery.
