Kenneth Raymond McFarland, 79, of Winamac, passed away at 6:53 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at his residence in Winamac, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Star City, to Raymond and Garnett (Fry) McFarland. 

Kenneth married Alma (Worley) Moody on Aug. 30, 1974, in Logansport. Alma survives.

Ken graduated from Star City High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and served for four years. He became a radio relay repairman. He served two years in Japan. Ken loved his country and the Town of Winamac and was a very patriotic man.

He returned to the Winamac area following his release from the Air Force. Ken was employed as a typesetter by the Pulaski County Democrat/Journal. After 12 years at the newspaper he became an electrician/lineman for the Town of Winamac. After 19 years as lineman Ken became town manager. He served in that capacity for 10 years. 

Ken was a volunteer fireman for many years. He served as town board president. Ken was a member of the VFW Post 1728 and American Legion Post 71 in Winamac. 

Ken enjoyed taking walks in the town park, playing golf and playing cards at the American Legion post. He also enjoyed meeting his friends for early morning coffee. 

Ken especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all. 

Survivors include his wife Alma (Worley) McFarland of Winamac; daughters: Cheryle [Alan] Hack of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Crystal [Brian] Scruggs of Greenfield, Colleen [Louis] Schulz of Fishers, and Pamela [Darrell] Scott of Lafayette; sons: Mickey McFarland of Greenfield, and Bill Moody of New Albany; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Janet Covert of Lake Orion, Michigan, Melody [Tom] Kruger of Plymouth, and Bonnie [Maurice] Kopka of Francesville; brother Mark [Beth] McFarland of Winamac; and sister-in-law Joyce [Dave] McFarland Bales. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond L. and Garnett (Fry) McFarland; sister Karen Lowry; and brother Michael McFarland. 

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Frain Mortuary, with Austin Putt officiating. Burial will take place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.
