Kenneth L. “Kenny” Holbrook

Feb. 6, 1951 — July 18, 2019

Kenneth L. “Kenny” Holbrook, 68, of Winamac, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital. 

He was born on Feb. 6, 1951, in Indianapolis, to the late Cash and Vivian (Tuley) Holbrook. Kenny graduated from Winamac High School in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On Sept. 11, 1976, Kenny married Anne Schmicker at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. She survives.

Kenny was a member of the Winamac VFW Post #1728 and St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. As owner of Holbrook’s Market, he found great joy in interacting with the customers he served. Kenny was a hard worker and took great pride in a job well done. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, gardening and grilling out. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching sports on TV. Most of all, Kenny loved spending time with his family, especially being “Grampa” to Abigail. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Anne (Schmicker) Holbrook of Winamac; daughter Jennifer [Jay] Johnson of Francesville; granddaughter Abigail Johnson of Francesville; brother Darl [Pam Viktora] Holbrook of Winamac; mother-in-law Mildred “Millie” Schmicker of Winamac; brothers-in-law: Tom [Mary Beth] Schmicker of Winamac, Tim [Rochelle] Schmicker of Winamac, Ted [Erin Brugh] Schmicker of Logansport, Tobe Schmicker of Winamac, Tony [Michelle] Schmicker of Crossville, Tennessee, Todd [Michelle] Schmicker of Winamac, John [Kelly] Schmicker of Winamac, Rob [Teri] Schmicker of Winamac, and Danny [Gina Sowder] Schmicker of Buffalo; sisters-in-law: Lenora [Doug] Hoover of Star City, Mary [Marc] Schultz of Ft. Wayne, and Teresa [Todd Fleece] Wallace of Marion; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his father Cash Holbrook; mother Vivian Tuley Straka; sister Barbara Jo “Bobby Jo” Holbrook; maternal grandparents James and Grace (Trapp) Tuley; paternal grandparents Isom and Lula (Allen) Holbrook; and father-in-law Robert “Bob” Schmicker. 

Visitation was from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 22, at Frain Mortuary. Rev. Edward Clark officiated. Burial took place at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services.
