Judith A. Bathke

May 6, 1941 — June 28, 2015

Judith A. “Judy” Bathke, 74, of Medaryville, went home to be with the Lord at 2:17 a.m. Sunday, June 28, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello.

Judy was born on May 6, 1941, in Winamac, to the late Carl J. and Olive G. (Fisher) Mendenhall.

Judy graduated from Pulaski High School in 1959.

On Aug. 20, 1960, she married Norman D. Bathke at Pulaski Presbyterian Church. He survives.

She was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Medaryville, as well as the Ladies Guild.

Judy was a member of the Gingham Pals Home Economics Club (formerly Aim Hi Home Economics Club). She was a former 4-H leader and a former judge for county fairs and the state fair. In 2007, Judy was recognized by the Women of Pulaski County for her positive leadership and   role she played in serving the community. She was a former board member of the Medaryville Library.

Judy enjoyed flowers, sewing, quilting, cooking and baking. She was well known for her graduation and wedding cakes. Over the years, she worked for several local florists and quilt shops.

Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband Norman D. Bathke of Medaryville; sons: Doug [Sandy] Bathke of Medaryville, and Chuck [Sally] Bathke of Medaryville; daughter Diana [David] Ricks of Greenfield; grandsons: Trevor Bathke, Trent [Betsy] Bathke, Spencer Ricks, Bryan Bathke and Michael Bathke; brother Ronald [Karen] Mendenhall of Star City; brother-in-law Arden [Phyllis] Bathke of Medaryville; and niece Melissa Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl J. and Olive G. (Fisher) Mendenhall; stepmother June Mendenhall; and grandson Alex Douglas Bathke.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville, and one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Medaryville, with Rev. Judith Doll officiating. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Medaryville.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
