Joseph Hayes Huddleston

March 23, 1941 — April 22, 2019

Joseph Hayes Huddleston, 78, of Ashburn, Virginia, formerly of Vienna, Virginia, passed away on April 22, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Born in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the only child of the late Col. Joseph J. Huddleston (U.S. Air Force) and Dorothy (Hoesel) Huddleston. Hayes was a devoted father and grandfather and the beloved husband of JoAnn Huddleston for 54 years. He attended The College of William & Mary, served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for the treasury department (U.S. Customs) until his retirement in 1996.

In his retirement, Hayes enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, cycling on Washington & Old Dominion Trail and spending time with his family and friends. Hayes was a loyal parishioner and Sunday school teacher at Vienna Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife JoAnn Huddleston; two daughters: Julie [Ken] Freyberger and Jill [Chad] McClelland; and grandchildren: Nicole, Alec and Brady Freyberger and Gwyn and Charlie McClelland.

Hayes will be laid to rest in Winamac – the birthplace of his beloved parents and the source of many fond memories.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the Winamac Cemetery with Rev. Dave Marty officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Parkinson’s Moving Day, Team Hayes’ Huddle.
