John William “Bill” Dunno

Oct. 21, 1930 — Sept. 18, 2017

John William “Bill” Dunno, 86, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, Sept. 18, at VA Northern Indiana Health Care System Hospital in Marion. 

He was born on Oct. 21, 1930, to John and Clara Dunno in Napoleon, Ohio. Bill served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving several commendations, including a Purple Heart. On Sept. 11, 1954, he married Ivaloo (Steingass) Dunno, who preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2004. He attended Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, and was a life member of VFW Post #3360. He retired from Dinner Bell Foods in Defiance. Bill was a Detroit Tigers fan, and enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, harness racing and eating at Bud’s Restaurant and Kissner’s in Defiance.

Bill will be sadly missed by his daughters: Julie Dunno of Defiance, Janet [Ron] Kruger of Francesville, and Joyce [Doug] Wachtman of Defiance; sons: John Dunno and Jay [Elayne] Dunno of Defiance, and Jeff Dunno of Avilla; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters: Ella Mae Clifton of Delta, and Bonny Green of Grand Rapids, Michigan. 

Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren. Rev. Benjamin Polzin officiated. Burial followed the service at Poplar Ridge Cemetery, with graveside military rites accorded by VFW Post #3360.
