Joel E. Pence, 64, of Winamac, passed away at 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at his home. 

He was born on Jan. 22, 1953, to Everett and Marian (Bowdin) Pence in Gary. 

On April 1, 1992, Joel married Vickie (Lewis) Bennett in Hobart. She survives. 

Joel was a member of the Hobart Jaycees. He enjoyed music, especially bluegrass and King Crimson. Joel was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. One of his favorite pastimes was needlepoint. Joel thoroughly enjoyed his recent cross-country trip with Vickie and “the cousins.” He loved his family very much and will be sadly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie (Lewis) Pence of Winamac; son Charles E. “Chuck” Bennett of Winamac; daughter Debra K. “Debi” [Tim] Van Deraa of Winamac; mother Marian (Bowdin) Pence of Winamac; sister Judy [Kelly] Keunn of Holiday, Florida; nieces and nephew: Stephanie, Niki and Kyle; great-niece Hannah; aunt Carol; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Everett Pence; infant brother Martin Pence; brother Mark Pence; and nephew Sam.

The family will host a celebration of life service at a later date.
