Jack L. Giselbach

Nov. 26, 1934 – Feb. 16, 2022

Jack L. Giselbach, 87, of Ora, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 16.  He passed away unexpectedly at Northwest Health Porter Hospital in Valparaiso. Jack was born on Nov. 26, 1934, in Elwood to the late Joseph Raymond and Helen Bernice (Green) Giselbach.  He loved the outdoors and had fond memories of playing in the family apple orchard in his youth. Jack was a talented young athlete who excelled in basketball, football, and baseball. He volunteered for the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. On Sept. 28, 1977, he married the love of his life, Carole York, in Ft. Wayne. Jack retired from the Indiana Department of Corrections after nearly 20 years of service. He worked at Westville Correctional Facility and Medaryville Youth Camp.

Jack enjoyed helping others and was a former member of the Jaycees in Albion. He had a lifetime of love for gospel music and enjoyed singing with the Lake Shore Gospelaires. Jack’s love for the outdoors led him to become a Park Ranger at Chain O’ Lakes State Park in Albion.  He was avid outdoorsman and had good memories of camping with his parents, family, and friends. Jack’s life was absorbed by caring for those he loved. He was a hardworking and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jack loved his family very much, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Carole (York) Giselbach of Ora; daughters: Ginny [Kathy Kellems] Trent of Francesville and Jane [Bruce] Hestand of Noblesville; sons: Brad [Jena] Giselbach of Champions Gate, Florida, Ben Giselbach of Ora and Joseph Giselbach of Ora; daughter-in-law: Deanna Giselbach of Ocala, Florida; grandsons: Austin Trent, Kolt Trent, Chase Trent, Dawson Trent, Justice Giselbach, Christian Giselbach, Benjamin Giselbach and Chad [Mandi] Stewart; granddaughters: Olivia Trent, Torie Hemphill, Faith Hemphill, Allyson Hemphill, Patience Giselbach, Alyssa Giselbach and Marie Young; sisters: Mary Ingram of Elwood, Peach [Bill] Dodd of Elwood, and Robin Driver of Elwood; sister-in-law Eileen Giselbach; brother-in-law Joe Frazee; brothers: Jim [Lekeeta] Giselbach of Fairmount and Tom [Ginnie] Giselbach of LaFontaine; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph Raymond and Helen Bernice (Green) Giselbach; son Clay Giselbach; sisters: Sharon Buckler, Pat Frazee and Sudy Elmerick; brothers: Leo Giselbach and Bob Giselbach; brother-in-law Jerry Ingram; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at noon on Monday, Feb. 21 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military honors following services at the funeral home. 

Visitation was from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac and one hour prior to services at the funeral home Monday with Pastor Etsie Allen officiating.
