Irene Marie Mitchell
Irene Marie Mitchell, 89, of Winamac, passed away at 7:27 p.m. Saturday, March 20, surrounded by her family at her home in Winamac.
Irene was born on Nov. 21, 1931, to the late Frank and Martha (Pucka) Pletka. On Dec. 24, 1949, she married Raymond A. “Bud” Mitchell in Winamac. He died Aug. 12, 2009.
Irene was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac. She was a hardworking farm wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had also worked at the former Eaton Corporation in Winamac.
Irene loved working in her garden and watching her hummingbirds. Irene was a great cook and enjoyed fishing with Bud. She also loved doing puzzles. Irene loved her family and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her daughters: Betty S. [George] Staller of Peru, Laura A. Mitchell of Winamac, and Cindy R. [Albert] Gudas of Kewanna; sons: Raymond A. Mitchell Jr. [Sue Penn] of Kewanna, and Jeff A. Mitchell of Winamac; grandsons: Rodney A. [Holly] Mitchell of Logansport, Jeff A. [Tasha] Mitchell Jr. of Winamac, Keith E. Mitchell of Rochester, Jay R. [Ann] Huff of Macy, and Ben W. Gudas of Kewanna; granddaughters: Stacie R. [Rocky] Flowers of Royal Center, Joni M. [David] Herring of Noblesville, Carrie N. [Lyndon] Field of Winamac, Becca I. [Matt] Wenzler of Winamac, and Michelle R. [Kevin] Bangel of Rochester; great-granddaughters: Carissa M. Allen of Royal Center, Alyssa R. Lantz of Royal Center, Baylee Flowers of Royal Center, Katelin A. Popejoy of Star City, Cara E. Popejoy of Star City, Liberty Mitchell of Logansport, Skylar Mitchell of Logansport, Carlyn Crume of Logansport, Cassidy Crume of Logansport, Cameron Crume of Logansport, Wren Mitchell of Winamac, Dana Bangel of Rochester, Daniella Bangel of Rochester, Paige Field of Winamac, Piper Field of Winamac, Claire Wenzler of Winamac, Dakota Huff of Macy, and Olivia Huff of Macy; great-grandsons: Braiden P. Allen of Royal Center, Peyton Flowers of Royal Center, Alex Popejoy of Star City, Rylan Mitchell of Logansport, Leon Wenzler of Winamac, Austin Handy of Macy, and Max Huff of Macy; and sister Mary Kaminski Bowman of San Pierre.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Martha (Pucka) Pletka; husband Raymond A. ”Bud” Mitchell; brothers: James Pletka, Raymond Pletka, Thomas Pletka, John Pletka, Frank Pletka Jr., and Dennis Pletka; and sister Virginia Mills.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 26, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Winamac, with Pastor Tom Woodley officiating. Burial will take place at Independence Cemetery in Medaryville.
