Helen M. Wilson

Helen M. Wilson, 76, of Winamac, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 6. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home. 

Helen was born on Sept. 22, 1942, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, to the late John and Marion (Mathis) Bisset. She was the oldest of nine children. Helen spent most of her youth in Chicago, and later resided in Cedar Lake. She and her former husband, Jerry Walter Horton, raised two daughters in Hammond. Prior to moving to Winamac in 2001, Helen had resided in Lake Station. Helen married Norbert R. “Norb” Wilson on Oct. 16, 2004, in Winamac. He survives.

Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winamac. She served her church family and her Lord faithfully. She was active in the church choir and was a member of the Golden Gate Singers. Helen was a dedicated prayer warrior and was faithful to witness to others. She was a truly inspirational woman of faith. 

Helen enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time in the Winamac park and Tippecanoe River State Park. She also enjoyed bowling and games, especially bingo, puzzles and cards. 

Helen was a dedicated homemaker and talented cook. She was always willing to cook for her family, friends and church family. Helen loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. 

Helen will always be remembered for her beautiful smile that inspired many to have hope and faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her husband Norbert R. “Norb” Wilson; daughters: Jeanette “Pixie” [Ronald] Fountain, Marilyn “Dee” [John] Reno, Heather [Jeff] Huffer, Jennifer [Jake] Wheeler and Ami [Keith] Atchison; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters: Mable Nelson, Betty [Lee] Soucie, Emily [Richard] Medina and Erdine [Dennis] Weis; brothers: William “Bill” [Yvonne] Bisset and James “Jim” [Nichole] Bisset; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Marion (Mathis) Bisset; former spouse Jerry Walter Horton; and brothers: John “Jack” Bisset and Robert “Bob” Bisset. 

Visitation will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac, with Pastor Mark Pilger officiating. Private burial will take place at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac.
