Helen “Frances” “Mommom” Calhoun

Helen “Frances” “Mommom” Calhoun, 92, of Leiters Ford, passed away peacefully at 11:05 a.m., Friday, Oct. 19, at her residence.

Born on Sept. 1, 1926, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen J. (Thomas) Hite. On Jan. 24, 1944, she married Russell W. Calhoun. He preceded her in death on May 30, 2000.

She formerly worked at Hart-Schaffner & Marx in Rochester, retiring after 40 years. Helen enjoyed sewing, crafts and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Janet Calhoun of Leiters Ford, and Dennis W. [Bonnie] Calhoun of Monterey; brother Victor Hite of Ft. Wayne; sister JoAnne Walters of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son Donald Calhoun; daughter Phyllis Sutton; grandson Michael Calhoun; great-granddaughter Katelynne Parks; and sisters: Betty Frink, Georgia Nickles and June Hite.

Visitation was from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 22, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home & Crematory, Kewanna Chapel. Services were held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was at Leiters Ford IOOF Cemetery.
