Grover Henry Shidler

Grover Henry Shidler, 84, of Star City, passed away at 5 a.m., Friday, May 1, at Pulaski Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 5, 1930, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Grover Merl and Dora Ethel (Spencer) Shidler.

On April 30, 1960, he married Doris Marie Banta.

Grover was a Star City High School graduate where he played baseball and basketball.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving aboard the battleship USS New Jersey during the Korean War.

Grover retired from Gencorp after 42 years where he worked as a receiving supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed gardening and bowling. Grover bowled on many leagues through the years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris M. Shidler of Star City; children: Jackie [John] Baker of Winamac, and Veronica [Richard] Applegate of Warsaw; stepchildren: Richard [Annett] Schoenradt of Waco, Texas, David [Debbie] Schoenradt of Greentown, and Diana Tocco [Willie Ho] of Holiday, Florida; sisters: Helen [Gary] Abell and Mary Ruth Lewis, both of Kokomo; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by stepson Stephen Schoenradt; sister Charlotte Lewis; and brother Jim Shidler.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at Harrison-Metzger and Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Woodley officiating. Burial with military rites performed will be at Buck Cemetery in Thornhope.
