Gregory C. Frain

Dec. 5, 1947 — April 30, 2015

Gregory C. Frain, 67, of Winamac, passed away at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 30, at his residence after an extended illness.

Born on Dec. 5, 1947, in Logansport, he was the son of the late Arlis Harold and Estella Lucille (Zellers) Frain.

He was a 1965 Winamac High School graduate.

Greg was a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran serving in the Vietnam War during 1967 and 1968. He was awarded two Purple Hearts while serving with Lima Company 3rd Battalion 9th Marine Regiment.

Greg achieved his 28th year of continuous sobriety in March 2015. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. His special joy was gathering with his Marine brothers at their annual reunions held all over the United States.

Survivors include his children: Colleen [Michael] Craig of Albion, Barney “Brent” Frain of St. Marys, Georgia, and Dorri [Michael] O’Donnell of Winamac; brother Jeffrey [Jerrilyn] A. Frain of Perry, Iowa; nephew A.J. Frain of Perry, Iowa, and his lady friend Valerie Powers of Winamac.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at Harrison-Metzger and Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel. Memorial services with full military rites will be performed at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
