Gladys Allen

Gladys Allen, 93, of Winamac, formerly of Merrillville, passed away at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at the Life Care Center of Rochester. 

She was born on Oct. 22, 1925, in Leachville, Arkansas, to the late Willie and Rosie (Price) Bellah. Gladys married Leamon Allen on Feb. 16, 1955, in Gary. He passed away on Sept. 17, 2011.

Gladys was a founding member of the Assembly of God Church in Winamac. She was proud to be a master beautician. She owned and operated her own beauty shop and also did hair at local nursing homes for years. Gladys enjoyed cooking and baking as well as fishing and socializing. Most of all, Gladys loved her family, especially the grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons: Norm [Rowena] Allen of Winamac, and Kevin [JoAnn] Allen of Nineveh; adopted son Terry [Connie] Pine of Winamac; granddaughters: Aubree Allen, Lindsey Warner and Stacie [Adam] Finch; grandsons: Nicholas [Kristy] Allen and Damon Ervin; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Rosie (Price) Bellah; husband Leamon Allen; and sisters: Majorie Ervin and Juanita Hudson. 

Visitation was from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Pastors Heath Hiatt and Jim Howard officiated. Burial took place at Citizens Cemetery in Rochester.
