Gilbert Leroy “Gibby” Stepp

Aug. 16, 1943 — April 8, 2020

Gilbert Leroy “Gibby” Stepp, 76, of Star City, passed away at 1:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at his home surrounded by his family. 

Gilbert was born on Aug. 16, 1943, in Lafayette, to the late Roy G. and Martha (Blessing) Stepp. He was a 1962 graduate of Star City High School. On Jan. 4, 1963, Gilbert married Mary Ellen Weaver at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pulaski. She survives. 

Gilbert worked at RCA in Monticello, and Wilsons in Logansport, for many years. He retired from the Pulaski County Maintenance Department several years ago. 

Gilbert was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a dedicated fan of Bitterling Racing (#225 and #X225). He was a loyal patron of Oak Grove Restaurant in Star City. 

Gilbert loved his family very much and will be sadly missed. 

Survivors include wife Mary Ellen (Weaver) Stepp of Star City; sons: Joe [Enid] Stepp of Rochester, and Phil [Traci] Stepp of Monticello; daughters: Theresa Anderson of Star City, and Becky [Emily] McLeroy of Star City; 13 grandkids; 10 great-grandkids; sisters: Alma Cunningham of Florida, Kathy Rhodenbaugh of Logansport, and Georgia [Ron] Browning of Star City; brothers: Ed Stepp of Logansport, and Rod Stepp of La Paz; sister-in-law Shirley Kujawa of Winamac; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy G. and Martha (Blessing) Stepp; grandson Josh Stepp; brothers: Alan Stepp and Kenny Stepp; and infant sister Jeanette Stepp. 

He was private family services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Private family burial took place at Star City West Cemetery in Star City.
