George Perry Jr.

July 8, 1936 — July 27, 2015

George Perry Jr., 79, of Monticello, passed away at 12:34 a.m., Monday, July 27, at I. U. Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born on July 8, 1936, in Fort Wayne to the late George and Margaret (Ellison) Perry.

On April 15, 1965, he married the former Betty (Heims) Erb and she survives.

George graduated from Hammond Clark High School and then entered the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a former truck driver and enjoyed driving. He loved to take short trips and enjoyed Sunday drives every day of the week.

George worked as a welder at NIPSCO until he was promoted to supervisor from which he retired after 33 years of service.

He liked boating and golf and was a member of Pine View Golf Club. George built his own dune buggy, coached minor and little league baseball and more than anything, cherished time spent with his family.

He is survived by his children: Ron Erb of Indianapolis, Toni [Dave] Wineland of Indianapolis, Charley [Shari] Erb of Hilliard, Ohio, and the former Jalayne Perry; sisters: Phyllis Fedor of Whiting, Barb Pickett of Munster, and Mary Belle Krueger; brother Mike Perry of Minnesota; grandchildren: Jeff Dawson, Christopher Wineland, Shelbi Wineland, Landon Erb and Helen Erb; and great-grandchild Nicholas Dawson.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Chuck Perry; and sister Rosie Pickett.

Visitation was 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello. Memorial services followed at the funeral home with Don Franklin speaking and Rev. Keith Raderstorf officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
