Genevieve M. Skillen

Aug. 5, 1921 — April 6, 2015

Genevieve M. Skillen, 93, of Peru, formerly of Star City, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Blair Ridge Health Campus in Peru.

She was born Aug. 5, 1921, in Winamac, to Edward and Nellie (Wright) Teske.

Genny was married to Woodrow W. “Tom” Skillen on Oct. 18, 1941, in Winamac. Tom passed away Jan. 21, 2015.

Genny and Tom farmed in the Star City area most of their lives.

She was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church and the New Life Methodist Church, Mexico, Indiana. Genny and Tom moved to Peru in 2005. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Home-Ec Club.

She worked as the secretary and treasurer of the Star City and Winamac schools for 25 years.

Genny enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed growing flowers and caring for her vegetable garden.

Genny enjoyed playing bunco and making crafts.

Survivors include her daughter Sharon [John] Sayers of Bringhurst; son Darl D. [Diane] Skillen of Peru; granddaughters: Natalie [John] Pettit, Stephanie [Scott] Harris and Karen [Ryan] Baker; grandsons: Mike Skillen and Nick Skillen; eight great-grandchildren; and brother Ron [Bobbi] Teske of Jonesboro, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Nellie (Wright) Teske; husband Woodrow W. “Tom” Skillen; brothers: Fred Teske, Russell Teske and Cecil Teske; and sister Margaret V. Dye.

Visitation was 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, at Frain Mortuary. Pastor Sam Polito officiated. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial contributions may be given to New Life Methodist Church, Mexico, Indiana, or the Star City United Methodist Church.
