Frank L. Tanner

Oct. 29, 1926 — April 2, 2015

Frank L. Tanner, 88, of Medaryville, passed away with his family by his side at 7:58 a.m. Thursday, April 2, in his residence following a short illness.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1926, in Francesville, to the late Willard and Golden (Wolfe) Tanner.

On Dec. 12, 1948, he married Ruth E. Watson at Medaryville Christian Church. She preceded him in death on Sept. 1, 2012.

He was a longtime member of Medaryville Christian Church where he quietly served in numerous roles. Frank was a lifelong farmer in Pulaski and Starke counties as well as a school bus driver and custodian at West Central School Corporation for almost 40 years.

He enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors. Frank and Ruth enjoyed many camping trips over the years, especially the Tanner Family Campout.

Frank loved his family very much, especially spending time with his many grandchildren. He was a loving and faithful husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his daughters: Charlene [Ron] Warner of Princeton, Patrice [Terry] Freestone of South Bend, Kathy [Bruce] Wuethrich of Rensselaer, Margaret [Doug] Leman of Francesville, and Marsha [Richard] Jurek of Naperville, Illinois; sons: Raymond Tanner of Medaryville, Jerry [Cathy] Tanner of West Lafayette, Richard [Darlene] Tanner of Francesville, and Douglas [Suzanne] Tanner of Phoenix, Arizona; 27 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Lela Sandifur of Florida, and Reba [Everett] Kopka of Winamac; brothers: Delos [Jackie] Tanner of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Donald [Judy] Tanner of Francesville, and Dean [Wilma] Tanner of Lincoln, Illinois; brothers-in-law: Johnny Ringen of Winamac, Bill Watson of LaPorte, and Ben [Linda] Watson of Paulding, Ohio; sister-in-law Lois Tanner of Winamac; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Golden (Wolfe) Tanner; wife Ruth E. (Watson) Tanner; grandson Jordan Wuethrich; sisters: Margaret Hazelett and Shirley Ringen; brothers: Vern Tanner, Floyd Tanner, Ezra Tanner, Lester Tanner and J.D. Tanner; and son-in-law Stephen Dornhecker.

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Monday, April 6, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Medaryville and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Medaryville Christian Church, Medaryville. Don Nedza officiated. Burial took place in White Post Cemetery, Medaryville.
