Evelyn M. Fechner
Evelyn M. Fechner, 100, of Winamac, passed away at 2:43 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
Evelyn was born on Feb. 2, 1919, in Toto, to the late Carl and Hava (Jordan) Lainhart. She was the valedictorian of her class at Knox High School in Knox. On Dec. 31, 1939, Evelyn married the late Franklin W. Fechner. He passed away on Aug. 29, 1985.
Evelyn had a 20-year banking career and retired in 1980 as bank manager from Farmers Bank and Trust Co. Bass Lake Branch. During her time working for the bank, she attended classes at South Bend Business College. She was a longtime volunteer and member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a volunteer at the American Red Cross and Von Tobel Senior Center. Evelyn was a devoted member of the Winamac Church of the Nazarene, where she enjoyed serving as a church greeter. Later in life, she was recognized on numerous occasions for her many hours of community service and generosity.
Evelyn loved and appreciated people and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Sue [Monty] Gum of North Judson; grandsons: John Robert Gum of North Judson, and Andrew Douglas Gum of Indianapolis; brother Marion E. Lainhart of Ripley; nephew Keith [Linda] Lainhart; and niece Gloria [Phillip] Tumey.
She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Hava (Jordan) Lainhart; husband Franklin W. Fechner; and brother Harold C. [Marion] Lainhart.
Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. Monday, June 24, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Rev. Don Franklin and Rev. Dave Broad officiated. Burial took place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac.
