Eugene Ralph

Eugene Ralph, 93, of Star City, passed away at 8:55 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 19, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.

Born on Jan. 4, 1927, in Haven, Kansas, he was the son of the late Stewart and Mattie (Scott) Ralph.

Gene was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Winamac V.F.W.

On March 26, 1974, he married Berla Carlisle. She preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 2011.

He retired from U.S. Gypson Drywall Company in East Chicago. Gene also formerly owned and operated Ralph’s Restaurant in Whiting and Ralph’s Market in Star City. He also drove a school bus for 27 years for Eastern Pulaski schools. He also worked part-time for Braun Corporation.

Gene was an avid bowler in his younger years and he also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his daughter Bonnie Drabek of Star City; brother Don [Adda Mae] Ralph of Texas; sister Donna Carey of Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Jeff Forrest and Mike Forrest; stepchildren: David [Barb] McLeroy of Ohio, Joseph “JD” [Connie] McLeroy of Hanna, Robert [Pam] Dooley of Pulaski, Jackie [Rory] Dimos of Hobart and Laura [Jim] Dooley of Star City; several great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his daughter Jackie Moore.

Graveside services with military rites were performed at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Star City West Cemetery.
