Ethel Joan Gutwein

Feb. 18, 1938 — June 12, 2018

Ethel Joan Gutwein, 80, of Francesville, went home to be with the Lord at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, at the Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. 

Joan was born on Feb. 18, 1938, in Rensselaer, to the late Richard and Zura Ethel (Snedeker) Streitmatter. Joan married Harvey Fredrick Gutwein on Sept. 20, 1992, in the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. Harvey passed away on May 22, 2011.

She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. Joan was a former floral designer at Jordan’s Floral in Rensselaer. She also worked at Schumacher Electric in Rensselaer for 26 years. She enjoyed traveling and had visited all 50 states as well as many countries.

She is survived by her stepdaughters: Ann Gutwein of Forest Grove, Oregon, Gwendolyn Gutwein of Ft Wayne, Madeline Elaine Gutwein of Mountainair, New Mexico, Audrey [Jeffry] Schneider of Greenfield, and Amanda [Scott Gayton] Liter of Plovdiv, Bulgaria; stepsons: Fred [Madeleine] Gutwein of Francesville, Eric [Cyndi] Gutwein of Rensselaer, Gordon [Judy] Gutwein of Francesville, Harvey R. [Ellen] Gutwein of Francesville, Kurt [Deb] Gutwein of Lafayette; 31 stepgrandchildren; 60 step-great-grandchildren; several step-great-great grandchildren; brothers: R. Keith [Marlene] Streitmatter of Rensselaer, and G. Dale Streitmatter of Rensselaer; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was proceeded in death by her parents Richard and Zura Ethel (Snedeker) Streitmatter; husband Harvey Fredrick Gutwein; sisters: Lois [Irvin] Yaggie and Edith Streitmatter; and cousin James [Rose] Wren. 

Visitation was 3-8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, at the Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville, and was one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. Burial was in the Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville.
