Essie L. Shepherd

Essie L. Shepherd, 93, of Plymouth, formerly of Winamac, went home to be with the Lord at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

She was born June 30, 1921, in Royalton, Kentucky, to Bruce and Pearl (Allen) Stephens Sr.

Essie married William F. Shepherd on May 30, 1942, in Royalton, Kentucky. He passed away Sept. 26, 2001.

Essie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Knox. She attended the Church of the Heartland in Plymouth for the last nine years. She was a former elementary teacher but was a homemaker, loving wife and mother for most of her life. Essie and her husband Bill owned Bill Shepherd Chevy-Buick in Winamac for many years, retiring in 1980. She and Bill enjoyed more than 30 years wintering in Sarasota, Florida.

Essie’s joy in life was loving and serving her God and family. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include her daughters: Sandra [Herb] Hiatt of Plymouth, Barbara [Kent] Beeler of Culver, and Brenda [Jeff] Roberts of Culver; granddaughters: Lee Anne Seabolt, Amy [Don] Bright and Emily [Brian] Zentz; grandsons: Heath [Misti] Hiatt and Andy [Laura] Roberts; seven great-grandchildren; and brother Bruce Stephens Jr. of Hazard, Kentucky.

She was preceded in death by her husband William F. “Bill” Shepherd; parents Bruce and Pearl (Allen) Stephens Sr.; two sisters; and four brothers.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Calvary Baptist Church, Knox. Rev. Rodney Rudd and Pastor Heath Hiatt officiated. Burial took place in McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial contributions may be given to Calvary Baptist Church Knox, the Church of the Heartland Plymouth, or the Pulaski County Community Foundation.
