Elsie M. Short

July 12, 1931 — Nov. 4, 2019

Elsie M. Short, 88, of Winamac, went home to be with the Lord at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4. 

Elsie was born on July 12, 1931, in Marion, to the late Rev. V. Kenneth and Alice (Earle) Brown. She married the late Warren D. Short on Aug. 24, 1951. In 1970, they moved to Winamac. Elsie served as the mental health assistant director for Pulaski County. She also worked at the Pulaski County Public Library and was a volunteer with the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Elsie served as mission committee chairman for the Nazarene and Methodist churches. Elsie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac and a lifetime member of the Arba Friends Church. Elsie’s last years were spent as a resident of the Pulaski Health Care Center where she led an active life. Her lifetime commitment was to serve the Lord and her family. Elsie’s memory will be treasured by her family and by all those whom her life touched. 

She is survived by her daughter Evelyn R. [Bernard] Regier of Newton, Kansas; son Leonard M. [Carol] Short of Winamac; grandsons: Leonard W. Short, Jacob K. Short and Bernard K. Regier; granddaughters: Abigail E. Regier, Gretchen R. [Kailas] Chapman, Michelle A. [Tim] Bowyer and Natalie L. Shidler; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. V. Kenneth and Alice (Earle) Brown Sr.; husband Warren D. Short; grandson Bryan Jeff Shidler; and brothers: Rev. V. Kenneth Brown Jr., and Rev. David Brown.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Arba Friends Church (10632 S. Arba Pike, Lynn, IN 47355) with Rev. Gene Moser officiating. Burial will take place at Arba Friends Church Cemetery in Lynn. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the mission programs at Arba Friends Church or Winamac First United Methodist Church.
