Eliza Marie Hopkins

Nov. 22, 1938 — Sept. 7, 2022

Eliza Marie Hopkins, 83, of Francesville, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Parkview Haven Retirement Home in Francesville. 

She was born on Nov. 22, 1938, in Pike County, Kentucky to the late John and Mintie (Wallen) Harris. Eliza’s father passed away when she was five and soon after the family moved from Kentucky to Indiana. On Sept. 18, 1954, she married Hargis Hopkins, Jr. at Bailey’s Corner Church. Junior passed away on Aug. 13, 2013.

Eliza worked many years as a CNA at Parkview Haven. She also had worked at Schumacher Electric and Gehring Farms for numerous years. Most important to Eliza were the years she spent as a loving and devoted homemaker. 

Eliza was a humble Christian woman. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and mowing. Eliza loved her family very much and will be dearly missed.

Eliza and Junior are reunited and will be together forever. 

She is survived by her sons: H. Timothy Hopkins of Monterey, Gregory G. [Michelle E.] Hopkins of Francesville, Anthony Ray [Tina] Hopkins of Francesville and Darrell [Linda] Hopkins of Rochester; 14 grandchildren: Rick, Jennifer, Kelly, TJ, Greg II, Cody, Brett, Nathan, Taylor, Drake, Krista, DJ, Angel, and Jimmy; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by father John Harris; mother Mintie (Wallen) Harris Hill; step-father Glenn Hill; husband Hargis Hopkins, Jr.; daughter Debra Marie Hopkins; granddaughter Alicia; great-granddaughter Skyler; three sisters: Jean, Jeanette, and Emily; three brothers: Joseph, Bobby, and Harry; and one half-brother Willie.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating.

Private disposition will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Francesville.
