Edith I. Tucker

Edith I. Tucker, 99, of Francesville, passed away at 9:35 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Parkview Haven Nursing Home. 

She was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Pulaski County, to the late William “Bill” and Minnie (Doll) Garling.

Her first marriage was to Everett Kruger on March 10, 1936. He passed away in 1949. She later married Rhea Tucker on April 14, 1951, in Francesville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1984.

Edith was a lifelong member of St. James Salem United Church of Christ of Francesville and charter member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed spending her time outdoors, gardening, quilting and most of all, spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children: Marilyn Chafey of Indianapolis, and Gerald [Carolyn] Kruger of Francesville; sister Hannah [Don] Dommer of Winamac; grandchildren: Bill Chafey, Curt Chafey, Darryl Chafey, Jerry L. Kruger and Jana Drone; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death with her parents and both husbands is a brother Robert Garling; her son-in-law Bill Chafey; and a great-great-grandson Noah Chafey.   

Friends called from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at St. James Salem United Church of Christ (10934 W. 600 S., Francesville). Rev. Judith Doll officiated.  Interment followed in the St. James Salem Church Cemetery.
