Dorothy D. Strasser

March 22, 1922 — April 28, 2015

Dorothy D. Strasser, of Winamac, died Tuesday, April 28, at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.

She was born March 22, 1922, to George and Dora Haring, of Francesville. She had seven brothers and sisters. One brother Mike Haring, of Georgia, survives.

She met her husband, Richard “Barney” Strasser, while visiting his sister in Winamac. They were married in 1940.

They had three daughters: Sondra Strasser of St. Marys, Georgia, grandchildren, Colleen Craig of Albion, Brant Frain of St. Marys, Georgia, and Dorrie [Mike] O’Donnell of Winamac; Kay Strasser of Sebastopol, California, grandchildren, Craig [Traci] Herrin of San Jose, California, Averi [Scott] Leonard of Sebastopol, California; and Beverly [Larry] Miller of Star City, grandchildren, Jeffrey Miller of Winamac, David [Sherree] of LaPorte, and Paul of Winamac. Larry thought of Dorothy and Barney like his Mom and Dad and they felt he was the son they never had. Dorothy had 13 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy enjoyed working at the school for many years as a school lunch lady. She started painting in her 40s and especially enjoyed painting flowers and barns. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren and even finished a quilt that her mother had started. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and marbles with her family up into her 90s.

She called Pulaski Health Care Center her home for the past few years and loved it there. She especially enjoyed the people who cared for her.

Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of services on Friday, June 12. A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Winamac.

Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Winamac or to Pulaski Animal Center.
