Donald L. “Don” Terry

Donald L. “Don” Terry, 72, of Winamac, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Dec. 20. 

He was born on May 23, 1948, in Winamac to the late Gerald “Red” and Myrna (Poss) Terry. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member and Past Commander at Winamac VFW Post #1728 as well as a longtime member of the Winamac Eagles #2580. He was a former member of the Winamac American Legion Post #71 and Winamac Masonic Lodge #262 F&AM. 

Don worked for NIPSCO and retired in April of 2003 after 32 years of service. After retirement, he found joy in helping his friends in the farming community. He enjoyed raising cattle and gardening. Don was always doing something and never sat idle.

Don married Teri L. (Westfall) Conrad on May 10, 2003, in Winamac. They enjoyed going to the casino and playing golf together. 

Don was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota with his son and looked forward to deer season with his grandsons. Don also enjoyed playing euchre and poker with his friends. He was a dedicated Chicago Cubs, IU basketball, and Dale Earnhardt fan. Don participated in many leagues over the years (golf, softball, bowling and horseshoes). 

Don loved giving back to our community and never wanted any recognition. More than anything, he loved his family very much. Don had a rich and full life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

He is survived by his wife Teri L. (Westfall) Terry of Winamac; daughter Dorinda [Anthony] Calabrese of Winamac; son Jimmy [Tara] Terry of Winamac; stepsons: Curt [Cathy] Bogan of Dickinson, North Dakota, Kelly [Jamalyn] Bogan of Crown Point, and Casey Bogan of Dickinson, North Dakota; grandsons: Joel Calabrese, Jet Terry, Jaden Terry, Jager Terry, Curtis Bogan Jr., Colin Bogan and Richard Bogan; granddaughters: Kyleigh Bogan and Kaseylyn Bogan; brother Dwayne Terry of Winamac; sister Marlene [Fran] Fox of Winamac; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald “Red” and Myrna (Poss) Terry; daughter-in-law Jenny (Thompson) Terry; brothers: Darrel Terry and David Terry; sister Linnea Lloyd; and sisters-in-law: Shorty Terry and Della Terry. 

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Private funeral services were held at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The American Legion and VFW conducted military graveside services. Private burial took place at Mt. Zion-Franklin Township Cemetery in Winamac. 

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
