Diane Joyce Booknis

Diane Joyce Booknis, 76, of Fishers, (formerly of Winamac) passed away at 9:58 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Allisonville Meadows in Fishers. Diane was born on Sept. 30, 1941, in Knox, to the late Frederick and Viola E. (Runyon) Schultz. She was a graduate of Knox High School. On May 28, 1960, Diane married the late Robert E. “Bob” Booknis in Winamac. Together they owned and operated Booky’s Bait and Tackle in Winamac for more than 35 years. 

Diane was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ladies of Charity and Christian Mothers. She was a member of the Winamac Eagles Auxiliary. 

Diane enjoyed crafting and was very artistic. She was a self-taught accountant. Diane especially enjoyed living on the Tippecanoe River and “outfishing” Bob. 

Diane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed hosting her family, especially at the holidays. Diane will be sadly missed. 

She is survived by her sons: Robert J. [Mindy] Booknis of Austin, Texas, and Randall J. [fiance Susan Clemons] Booknis of Indianapolis; grandchildren: Taylor, Meghan, Tate and Kaylee; sister Dolores Jones; brothers: Donald Schultz and Delvin [Fran] Schultz; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Viola E. (Runyon) Schultz; husband Robert E. “Bob” Booknis; and brother Dennis Schultz. 

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by Christian Mothers and Ladies of Charity Services. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac, with Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Winamac. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
