David G. Swartzell
David G. Swartzell, 77, of Winamac, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at his home.
David was born on March 12, 1940, in Winamac, to the late Robert and Esther Lavon “Bonnie” (Johnson) Swartzell.
David married Catherine L. Lincoln on April 14, 1962, in Winamac. Catherine died Feb. 20, 2001.
David served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Comstock. David enjoyed fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed caring for and riding his horses and playing cards. David especially enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughters: Kris [Steve] Girton of Winamac, and Deana [Jason] Ward of Elkhart; son Mark [Donna] Swartzell of Winamac; grandchildren: Doug [Ashley] Metzger, Kim [Waylon] Burke, Stacey [Wyatt] Roth, Joe [Andrea] Ward, Jason [Kami] Ward, Craig Girton, Josh [Chrissy] Girton and Boston Snyder; great-grandchildren: Destini Gould, Corinne Ward, Emri Metzger, Peyton Burke, Paxton Burke, Juliet Ward, Colin Roth, Leyli Metzger, Gavin Ward, Brodie Roth, Zane Davis and Ethyn Voulo; brothers: Jeffrey [Georgia] Swartzell of Winamac, and John [Nancy] Swartzell of Winamac; sister-in-law Mary Swartzell of Winamac; several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws; and neighbor lady and best friend Mary Lou Thomas of Winamac.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Esther Lavon “Bonnie” (Johnson) Swartzell; wife Catherine L. (Lincoln) Swartzell; grandson Joshua David Ward; great-grandson Leyton David Metzger; and brothers: Robert Swartzell Jr. and Donald Swartzell.
Visitation was Tuesday, June 20, 3-8 p.m., at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, at Frain Mortuary with Rev. Ed Clark officiating. Burial will take place in Idle Cemetery, Francesville. The VFW and American Legion will conduct military graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Salvation Army.
