Claudia Ray White

Claudia Ray White, 63, of Winamac, died at 10 p.m. Friday, March 4, surrounded by family at her home after a brave battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).  

Claudia was born on Nov. 5, 1952, in Frankfort, to the late Curtis Ray and Joan Donnis (Pearcy) Morris. She was a graduate of Rossville High School and Ivy Tech, having received an associate degree.

On Aug. 4, 1984, she married the love of her life, John White, at Pulaski Presbyterian Church. He survives.

Claudia was employed as a customer service representative at 1st Source Bank in Winamac where she received many awards and accolades over the years. Many Winamac school kids will remember Claudia as the crossing guard, a job she did with great pride. Claudia also owned and operated her own tax preparation service and volunteered her expertise to help others through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Claudia was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winamac. She dedicated her life to the service of God and helping others. She was an active member of the Salvation Army and the Winamac Kiwanis Club. In 2015, Claudia was recognized as Kiwanian of the Year. She was also active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Ladies of the Moose. Claudia was a strong supporter of the Winamac Band and Music Boosters as well as the school musicals. She was an avid Winamac Warriors and Purdue University sports fan. Claudia enjoyed the music of the Purdue Glee Club.

Claudia was beloved by the Winamac community and will be missed by many. She loved her family very dearly. Upon reflection of her life Claudia said, “Jesus, John, and my kids...those are the love of my life.”

Survivors include her husband John Joseph White of Winamac; daughter Kelly [George] Juniper of Royal Center; sons: Robert Curtis [Wendy] White of Rochester, and Matthew Wayne White of Monticello; grandsons: Aaron [Carol] Kistler, Devin Kistler, Dakota Kistler and Avery White; granddaughters: Breanna Kistler and Brinna White; great-grandson Aiden Kistler; great aunt Lena Rickert of Frankfort; sister-in-law Donna [Otto] Ruff of Star City; brother-in-law Jerrald White of Winamac; special friends Scott [Karen] Fritz of Winamac, Tom [Nancy] Teal of Bristol, Amanda Paradis of Winamac, and Ashley Paradis of Knox; many special neighbors and church family; and granddog Maverick. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Curtis Ray and Joan Donnis [Pearcy] Morris; and infant daughter Becky Joan White. 

Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, and one hour prior to services at the church Wednesday. A Kiwanis service was held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, at First United Methodist Church. Pastor Dave Marty will officiate. Burial will take place in Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.
