Christine “Tina” Shires

Christine “Tina” Shires, 41, of Winamac, passed away at 11:03 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at her home surrounded by her family. 

She was born on March 7, 1975, in Evansville, to Allen and Linda (Adler) Schmitt. Tina was a graduate of Mater Dei High School in Evansville and had worked as a certified nursing assistant. On Oct. 9, 1998, Tina married Sylvester “Syl” Shires in Winamac. He survives.

Tina was a member of the Catholic faith and attended St. Peter’s Church in Winamac. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and reading. Tina was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her husband Sylvester Shires of Winamac; son Michael Schmitt of Monticello; daughters: Selena Shires of Winamac, and Adrianna “AJ” Shires of Winamac; mother Linda Schmitt of Haubstadt; and brother Greg Schmitt of Poseyville. 

She was preceded in death by her father Allen Schmitt. 

Visitation was from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Dec. 20, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. A funeral mass was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac. Rev. Leroy Kinnaman officiated. Burial took place at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Winamac.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the form of mass intentions or the family to establish an education fund for her daughters.
