Charles E. Heinsen, MD
Dr. Charles “Charley” Edward Heinsen, MD, 82, of Winamac, passed away at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Culver.
Born on Aug. 8, 1942, in Port Clinton, Ohio, he was the son of Dr. Paul Heinsen and Nancy Gill Heinsen. Charley earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University in 1967 and dedicated 55 years to practicing medicine in Winamac and the surrounding communities before retiring in December 2023. His commitment to serving others was more than a profession – it was his passion, his calling, and his greatest honor.
Dr. Heinsen also enjoyed fishing, golf, hunting, playing cards, traveling and cheering on his favorite teams – Indiana Hoosiers, Purdue Boilermakers and Indianapolis Colts.
Survivors include son Mike Heinsen, Lafayette; daughters: Lori Heinsen, Largo, Florida, Renata Heinsen, Monterey, Sonya DeCristo, Denver, Colorado, Chantel Heinsen, Indianapolis; sisters: Susan G. Fix, Eugene, Oregon, Nancy A. [Bob] Munson, Danville, California; significant other Cara Lewellen, Culver; and nine grandchildren.
Preceded in death by grandfather Edward Heinsen; grandmother Helen Montgomery Heinsen; father Dr. Paul Heinsen; mother Nancy Gill Heinsen; step-mother Marilyn Capper Heinsen; brothers: John Paul Heinsen and Paul Charles Heinsen; daughter Lisa Heinsen; grandson Austin Cochenour; and granddaughter Katie Miles.
The memorial will take place on March 23 at Culver Emmanuel United Methodist Church, with the gathering beginning at 12 p.m. and the service starting at 1:30 p.m.
