Carolyn J. Cords

Feb. 26, 1928 — July 26, 2021

Carolyn J. Cords, 93, of Francesville, passed away on Monday, July 26, at Digby Place in Lafayette. She was born on Feb. 26, 1928, in Francesville to the late John and Frieda (Kaupke) Kopka. Carolyn graduated from Medaryville High School in 1946. On April 3, 1949, she married Arthur W. Cords.  He passed away on May 28, 1982.  Carolyn worked at Fagen’s Pharmacy (formerly Sullivan’s Drug Store) in Francesville for 67 years.  She was always busy working or helping others.  

Carolyn was a member of Francesville First Christian Church where she served many years as a deaconess and cherished her Tuesday morning ladies’ Bible study. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, Bunco Club and Aim-Hi Home Ec. Club.  

Carolyn enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and sewing as well as family fishing vacations. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

She is survived by her son Gene [Kay] Cords of Lafayette; daughter Jill [CJ] Collins of Lafayette; grandsons: Travis [Cassie] Cords and Brant [Miranda] Cords both of Lafayette; granddaughters: Tara [Chad] Dahlenburg of  Reynolds and Holly Collins of Lafayette; great-grandsons Noah Dahlenburg and Ryker Cords; great-granddaughters: Kinley Dahlenburg, Devyn Dahlenburg, Quinn Dahlenburg and Berkley Cords; sister-in-law Irene Kopka of Lafayette; one niece and two nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Frieda (Kaupke) Kopka; husband Arthur W. Cords; brothers Lynn [Alice] Kopka and Jon Kopka; and brother-in-law Richard [Phyllis] Cords.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.   

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Francesville First Christian Church with Pastor James Ketchen officiating.  

Burial took place at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
