Carol Jean Sparks

Dec. 6, 1949 — March 15, 2016

Carol Jean Sparks, 66, of Winamac, went to be with God at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday, March 15. She passed away peacefully at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. 

Carol was born on Dec. 6, 1949, in Long Beach, California, to Kenneth and Betty Pettit. She graduated from John Glenn High School in Norwalk, California, in 1968.

On Feb. 1, 1994, she married the love of her life, David Sparks. He survives.

Carol was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Winamac. She was a devoted servant of the Lord, always willing to work with the children and counseling anyone in need. She enjoyed being involved with the church choir, plays and leading women’s Bible study. She especially enjoyed reading her Bible every day.

Carol was an avid dog lover. She enjoyed crafting and making decorations with her Cricut. She handmade many special items for area festivals, fairs and hospital parties.

Carol was employed at Pulaski Memorial Hospital where she was most recently promoted to vice president of service excellence. She loved working at the hospital, especially helping others. Prior to working at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Carol had served as director of the chamber of commerce.

Carol was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her children and grandchildren and looked forward to visiting them every year. Carol will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Survivors include her husband David Henry Sparks of Winamac; son Scott [Heather] Meyer of Long Beach, California; daughters: Sherry [Robert] Keith of Bedford, Texas, and Cara [Matt] Ansis of Agoura Hills, California; grandchildren: Kennedy, Reynolds and Katrina Meyer, and Cambria, Corynn and Caralie Keith; mother Betty Joyce (Gosnell) Pettit; sisters: Joyce [Ed] Loomis, and Sharon [Jim] Aeders; brothers: Phil [Beth] Pettit, Gerald Pettit, Kenneth Pettit and Michael Pettit; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her father Kenneth Merle Pettit. 

Visitation was from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Winamac. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. following the visitation at Fellowship Baptist Church. Pastor Chad Ritchie officiated. Burial took place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Fellowship Baptist Church.
