Betty R. Yerion

May 19, 1930 — Oct. 28, 2022

Betty R. Yerion, 92, of Rensselaer, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, Oct. 28, at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac surrounded by her loving family. 

Betty was born in Medaryville on May 19, 1930, to Albert L. Owen and Lottie Ellen (Merrill) Owen. She was a 1949 graduate of Medaryville High School. On June 12, 1949, in Medaryville, she married George H. Yerion. He preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1994.

Betty worked as an appraiser, real estate agent and auctioneer. She was a celebrated artist winning several state and national awards for both her porcelain, acrylic and watercolor creations. She enjoyed literature and writing poetry and will be fondly remembered for her “Granny” impersonations. She was a member of the Medaryville Christian Church and Iroquois Valley Christian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and Women’s Group leader. She was also a member of the Porcelain Artists Association and the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her three sons: George A. [Susan] Yerion of Gooding, Idaho, Roger [Sandy] Yerion of Frankenmuth, Michigan and Mike [Kathleen] Yerion of Wheatfield; three grandchildren: Todd [Nicole] Yerion of Frankenmuth, Michigan, Natasha Yerion of Twin Falls, Idaho and Savannah Yerion of Muncie; and two great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband George Yerion; her parents: Albert and Lottie Owen; one brother, Verlin Owen; and one sister, Evelyn Hauptli.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral at 12 p.m. (CST) at Iroquois Valley Christian Church, 2335 Bunkum Rd., Rensselaer, IN 47978. Rev. Lloyd Kemble officiating. Interment will follow at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Winamac. 

Memorials may be made to the Medaryville Christian Church or Iroquois Valley Christian Church.
