Ben Eugene Zellers

March 24, 1953 — March 12, 2015

Ben Eugene Zellers, 58, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at the home of his sister, Bertha Kelsey, who resides in South Bend.

Ben was born on March 24, 1953, in Winamac, to the late Alvin B. and Emma E. (Sahlhoff) Zellers. He was born and raised in Winamac, and graduated from Winamac High School in 1975.

On Aug. 23, 1975, at Winamac Lutheran Church he married Celia Rodriguez of North Judson. They then made their home in North Judson. They had three children: Joshua Zellers of Plymouth, Jason Zellers of North Judson and Samantha Prater of Knox.

Ben enjoyed his dog Hope, and will join in heaven with his other beloved pets; Lance, Squirt and Lady Diana.

Ben’s favorite hobbies included putting puzzles together, collecting coins and fishing.

Also surviving are grandchildren: Zoe Zellers, Noah Zellers and Jorryn Zellers of Plymouth, Gaia Froesche of Plymouth and Jazmine Prater of Knox; brothers: Alvin [Wendy] Zellers and Glen [Kathy] Zellers, both of Winamac; sisters: Bertha Kelsey of South Bend, and Emma Lou [Chris] Neilsen of Winamac; and mother in-law Martina Rodriguez of North Judson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin B. and Emma E. (Sahlhoff) Zellers; his wife Celia Rodriguez; grandson Kraven Prater; twin half sisters: Jacque Hemm and Penny Mathison; father in-law Ramon Rodriguez; and brother-in-law Edward W. Kelsey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, for him and his late wife Celia. They would have been married 40 years this August.
