Arthur “Art” G. Geyer

Feb. 2, 1933 — Feb. 11, 2016

Arthur “Art” G. Geyer, 83, of Francesville, passed away on Feb. 11, at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. 

Art was born on Feb. 2, 1933, in Francesville, to the late Samuel and Tylla (Kuebler) Geyer. He was an Anna Banwart delivered baby. 

Art played basketball at Francesville High School and graduated in 1951. He was then employed at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant in La Porte, until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in May 1953. He graduated from the Armored School in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, was assigned to Company D 73rd Tank Battalion with his tank named “Deuces Wild” and served in Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

In May 1955, Art returned to Francesville and worked for Manion Construction and Houston Tile and Excavating. He also farmed and later owned Geyer Construction. 

On April 29, 1956, he married Roberta Houston and she survives.

Art was a longtime member and past president of the Francesville Town Board. He took great interest in the town park and personally removed dead trees and collected donations to add new trees and landscaping. Art and Ken Nuest built and erected the park sign.

Art was a Purdue Boilermaker fan and a former member of the John Purdue Club. He was also a former member of the Francesville Lions Club.

One of his greatest joys was watching his “favorite” granddaughter and grandsons participate in sports and other school activities.

Survivors include his wife Roberta Houston Geyer of Francesville; daughters: Joni [Steve] Buyer of Carmel, Sondra [Roy] Mullis of Winamac, and Jayne [Ken] Nuest of Francesville; granddaughter Colleen Buyer; grandsons: Ryan [Ashlyn] Buyer, Kevin [Michelle] Nuest, Travis [Holly] Nuest, and Karl Mullis; great-grandchildren: Kaden, Braxton, and Carly; and sister Isabel [Harley] Martin of Hobart. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Tylla (Kuebler) Geyer; daughter Loraine K. Geyer; sisters: Dorothy Geyer and Helen Eshleman; and brothers: Herbert Geyer, Lewis Geyer, Ralph Geyer and Wilbur Geyer.  

Visitation was 3-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. Funeral services followed at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel-Francesville. Private burial took place in Roseland Cemetery, Francesville, with the American Legion providing full military honors.
