Adam Jacob “Junior” Gutwein

Sept. 3, 1928 — March 31, 2018

Adam Jacob “Junior” Gutwein, 89, of Medaryville, went home to be with the Lord at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, March 31. He passed away at White Oak Health Campus in Monticello. 

Adam was born on Sept. 3, 1928, in Francesville, to the late Adam and Lydia (Albrecht) Gutwein. He was a 1946 graduate of Francesville High School. Adam served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Nov. 26, 1950, Adam married Arlene June Smith. She passed away on March 21, 2013.

Adam was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed being outdoors. He especially enjoyed working on things and bringing them back to life. Adam was a member of First Baptist Church of Francesville, where he loved to serve the Lord. He was faithful in inviting people to church. He loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Adam will be deeply missed. 

He is survived by his sons: Dennis [Kitty] Gutwein and Roger [Chelle] Gutwein; grandchildren: Billie Jo, Jason, Adam, Ashley, Jacob, Jonathan, Lydia, Elijah and Cassie; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret [Melvin] Leman, Adeline [Wally] Fry and Elvira Lamp; brothers: Harold [Maxine] Gutwein and Gilbert [Mary Jo] Gutwein; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Lydia (Albrecht) Gutwein; wife Arlene June (Smith) Gutwein; son Mitchell Gutwein; brother Ervin Gutwein; and brother-in-law Richard Lamp. 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at First Baptist Church of Francesville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at First Baptist Church of Francesville with Pastor Dennis Gutwein and Roger Cryan officiating. Burial will take place at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville. The American Legion will conduct military graveside services. 

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Fund or the First Baptist Church Youth Fund.
